The stats on that are sad. However, I would make a fair guess that more men normalize sexual assault and harassment than women. Since men are still more likely to be in positions of power, they are *probably* more likely to be perpetrators and normalize the behavior of others.
In my case, as a woman, I normalized sexual harassment in the restaurant industry. It was wrong and I think a large factor in my normalization is that I was also a receiver of sexual harassment (by a man). I’m not suggesting this is the case for everyone, but I do think we focus on the wrong party. So, I think the question is, “If this many men are comfortable normalizing and being actual perpetrators of this behavior, isn't all hope already lost?”
The answer is different for everyone. For me, when all evidence points to otherwise, it feels like the only option left is hope. Otherwise, I feel forced to accept society as it is. I refuse to do that.
